Currently there is no Money data type in openEHR. An equivalent of the HL7 type for money (value, currency, ordered quantity of some kind) is expected to be satisfactory. Requirements:
uses ISO currency codes
allows representation of exchange rate multipliers & date provided & who by
indicator of whether originally stated in that currency or another
should be able to act as a front end of a currency / exchange rate service
Normally money has a specific precision that is not properly supported by a traditional double type.
Might be worth supporting this separate from DV_QUANTITY for this reason more than the units reason.
I know this is important in health administration information, but I wonder how much it would be used in the EHR, which reduces the priority from my perspective..
I'd have to disagree with you Heath re priority - I'd say my experience is this is a foundational type of data captured in healthcare delivery. Perhaps not so important in research type but again in health policy, management etc. this would be a centrepiece.
Besides it'd be good for alignment with FHIR.
I'll stand corrected Koray, but I haven't seen an archetype with a currency concept in it yet.
You're absolutely right that we don't have any Archetypes but perhaps it's because we don't have the means to represent it
I think having the ability will cause otherwise non-Archetyped information be modelled using Archetypes. I'd go on to say we don't have much ADMIN_ENTRY type archetypes in first place.
Do we need a just datatype or a "financial model" like v3 has?
Maybe with just ADMIN_ENTRY and the money DT we can have enough expresiveness to mimic v3 and other financial models (like representing an invoice, an account a claim, etc). But I'm not sure since I never used the IM to express such info. Does anyone has some experience modeling these things with the IM?
