Mindmap of an Intraocular pressure archetype draft (still subject to change)
  1. Build international agreement on openEHR Archetype data models to represent eye health information in a standardized, vendor-neutral manner.

  2. Invite eye care professionals, members of the openEHR community and others to collaberate with one another in this process.

  3. Revise, review and publish Archetype data models free to use via the openEHR international CKM Platform.

  4. Coordinate with other standardization efforts in eye care.

Current Goals/Projects:

  • Revision and Review of the Visual Acuity Test Archetype (Confluence project page )

  • Revision and Review of the Intraocular Pressure Archetype (Confluence project page )

Background

There have been previous efforts to develop eye care Archetype data models in the openEHR international CKM, which had made significant progress, but slowed down over time.
The Eye Care Archetype Modelling Collaboration has evolved out of discussions on the Discourse Forum, which sparked a renewed effort to revise and review the visual acuity archetype. This in turn has prompted an open working group to form which has held monthly meetings since January 2025 and made significant progress to advance the VA Archetype, with contributions from 7-8 different nations.
As we move towards working collaboration across different Archetype models, we will use this Confluence Page to keep things organized and everyone up to date.

Organization

The governance of openEHR Archetype modelling efforts is intricate, how it works on a technical and professional level is explained on other confluence pages. It is not required to understand it in detail in order to start contributing to archetype modelling, though it is recommended to get aquainted with it over time. While these governance processes may seem complicated, one secret to the openEHR’s communitys success is that it excels at getting clinicians involved (and even to agree with one another!) without requiring them to become IT or openEHR experts.

@Lars Fuhrmann is currently coordinating this group effort with support of @Heather Leslie @Silje Ljosland Bakke @Ian McNicoll and other members of the openEHR community. Feel free to via email or by registering your interest here.
