Template Governance WG
Mission
Define and formalize a consistent, community-agreed semantic versioning approach for openEHR templates aligned with ADL 2.4 HRIDs and existing archetype practices by specifying what constitutes major/minor/patch changes (e.g., archetype and terminology updates), documenting key use cases and roles, and providing practical guidance with recommendations for enforceable/automatable implementation in modelling tools.

Aim of the Template Governance WG
Establish a clear, standardised and tool-friendly approach to versioning openEHR templates by adapting Semantic Versioning principles to the template level.
This work will:
Define what constitutes major, minor and patch changes for templates in the presence of evolving archetypes and terminologies.
Document the full set of relevant use cases and expected behaviours (including implications for composition/template identifiers and AQL querying across versions).
Clarify responsibilities across technical stakeholders and clinical/data modellers.
Align the outcome with ADL 2.4 HRIDs and existing openEHR identification guidance.
The end goal is to publish agreed rules and practical editorial guidance that can be consistently applied and, where possible, automatically enforced by modelling tools.
