I think you are probably right, it is needed. It would require the insertion of a common parent class above DV_ORDERED and DV_INTERVAL. Or else we just copy the attributes to DV_INTERVAL, which is ugly, but less impact.

Sometimes quantitative lab results are reported as numerical ranges with units. The notion of a normal range applies equally to this kind of result, as for single quantities.
