Archetype proposals process

Before you start development on new archetypes, we encourage you to first search thoroughly in CKM, including its incubators, and contact an editor of a CKM project that may be related to your archetype or a Clinical Knowledge Administrator first.
This is just so that we can avoid any duplication of work and frustration.

Here's a little introduction on how to Search for Archetypes, Templates & Termsets in CKM.

To submit a proposal for a new archetype, select 'Archetype Proposals' from the main menu or find the 'Propose New Archetype' Quick Task on the new CKM Dashboard or choose Archetypes/Archetype Proposals from the main menu (when logged in).

To make a proposal, you need to create an archetype using one of the available modelling tools, for example Archetype Editor (Ocean Health Systems) or Archetype Designer (Better). See the , and particularly the for guidance on how to make the archetype conformant with current modelling patterns used in the CKM.

How to create a proposal

  1. In the Archetype proposals tab, click the “Add New Resource Proposal” button.

  2. Fill out the “Description” field with the intent behind the archetype proposal.

  3. Select the archetype file you’ve created.

  4. Click “Save”.

Process

When a proposal is submitted, the Clinical Knowledge Administrators (CKAs) will progress the proposal using the following process.

  1. CKAs will make an initial assessment of the proposal. This will normally be done within a few weeks, but it can take up to a month for example during holiday seasons. As part of this step, the CKAs will either

    1. approve the proposal and import it into the CKM as a new archetype

    2. import it with modifications to style or scope to make it conformant with the existing archetypes

    3. or make a comment or question for the submitter, and put the proposal on hold.

  2. If CKAs have made a comment or question, the submitter will be able to respond with a new comment of their own. Like the initial assessment by the CKAs, this should normally be done within a few weeks, but it’s expected that it could take up to a month for example during holiday seasons.

  3. If a comment by CKAs is not responded to for 6 months or more, the proposal is considered to be abandoned, and will be closed with no further action by the CKAs.
